About Hampton
Hampton Little League is part of District 7 under Little League Canada’s rules. To participate, players must either reside within the Hampton boundaries or attend a school in the catchment area. This includes Esquimalt, parts of Saanich, and the Western Communities (Colwood, Langford, Metchosin, and Sooke).
If you live outside of our catchment area, but your player attends school in our catchment you can be eligible to play at Hampton! All you need to do is complete the School Form, have your principal sign it and bring it in with the rest of your registration forms!
To confirm your child's eligibility, use the League Finder tool here: League Finder - Little League.

Founded in 1956, Hampton Little League has a rich history of providing baseball and softball in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment. Proudly serving Esquimalt, parts of
Saanich, and the Western Communities (Langford, Colwood, and Metchosin), we continue to be a cornerstone of youth sports in the region.
Equipment & Bats
All players from T-Ball to Majors are required to have their own glove, batting helmet, and rubber cleats (not necessary for T-Ball and Mini Minors). Additionally, players must wear pelvic protection (a “jock” or “jill”) for all practices and games.
For players in Mini Minors, Rookie Minors, Minors, and Majors, grey baseball pants are also expected, and these can be purchased at most athletic stores.
Team Bats
Team bats are provided by Hampton Little League. However, players are welcome to purchase their own bat as long as it meets Little League standards. The bat must display the USA Baseball logo, which signifies it is approved for Little League use. IMPORTANT: Bats without the USA Baseball logo will not be allowed, and players may be penalized in certain tournaments if using non-approved bats.
Bat Guidelines
- Certification: All Little League bats must display the USA Baseball logo. This logo is a certification mrak.
- Length: Little league bats range between 25-33 inches.
- Weight: Drop weight (the difference between the bat’s length and weight) typically ranges from -10 to -12. A higher drop weight means a lighter bat.
For further information on bat specifications, please visit: Bat Information - Little League.
Little League Baseball vs. Other Youth Baseball Programs
In British Columbia, youth baseball is primarily divided into two categories: Little League Baseball and BC Minors. Both are excellent programs, but each offers unique features that may suit different players. Here are a few key differences:
- Pitching: Little League introduces in-game kid-pitching at an earlier age compared to BC Minors ball.
- Game Structure: Little League offers a house league for players of all skill levels and selects tournament teams after regular-season play. BC Minors focuses on “travel teams” typically starting at age 11.
- Competitions: Little League’s District Tournament gives players the chance to compete regionally, with winners advancing to the BC provincial tournament. From there, the Canadian National Little League Championship, and ultimately, the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.
We at Hampton believe that Little League offers the best environment for young players to develop their skills while also providing a competitive track for those with greater skill potential. However, any baseball is great, and we are happy to answer any further questions you may have!
Umpires
A perfect first job for young players, Hampton is always on the lookout for youth umpires. Umpiring is a fantastic opportunity for players to earn some extra pocket money and gain a deeper understanding of the game. We’re looking for umpires for the Mini Minors (after mid-May), Rookie Minors, Minors, and Majors divisions.
Requirements:
- Umpires must be at least 8 years old and currently playing in the Minors division or higher.
- No previous umpiring experience is required.
If your child is interested in umpiring, please fill out the Umpire Form.
We will also be offering an umpire clinic to train new officials.
Hampton Little League strives to ensure that no player is excluded due to financial constraints. Several programs offer financial support to help cover the costs of registration:
- KidSport Victoria: Provides up to $400 annually per child for registration fees.
- Canadian Tire Jumpstart: Covers registration, equipment, or transportation up to $300.
- Athletics 4 Kids (A4K): Covers up to 80% of the registration fee, with a maximum funding threshold of $150 for baseball.
If none of these options apply and you need further assistance, please reach out to our Treasurer at Treasurer@HamptonLittleLeague.com. We do not want financial concerns to prevent any child from participating.
Hampton Little League Scholarships
Established in 2018, the Frank Findlay Scholarship Awards program recognizes young athletes who are pursuing education in baseball or softball. For 2024, two $250 scholarships and one $500 post-secondary award will be available to eligible youth enrolled in high school or post-secondary softball/baseball programs.
These awards are made possible through the generous support of the Findlay family, who have strong ties to the league, including Frank Findlay, the league’s first president in 1956/1957.
Hampton supplies league wear through their local partner Teamworks. Check out the catalogue of t-shirts, hoodies and hats at the Teamworks store.
