Baseball

Overview

Registration for Spring 2025 Rookie-Minors, Minors and Majors divisions is now full and closed.

Registration for Blastball, T-Ball, Mini-Minors and Challengers remains open.

Hampton offers Little League baseball for boys and girls ages 3 to 12. Hampton is part of District 7 – the Little League district for southern Vancouver Island. The season begins in early April and runs until mid-June, with opportunities for tournament play and continued baseball in the fall with Fall Ball. Hampton also offers Indoor Winter Clinics to help further develop baseball skills.

If your child is new to baseball, beginners are welcome in any of Hampton's divisions! Players may be moved up or down a division during assessments based on experience and skill level. This ensures safety for all players and promotes overall enjoyment.

Be sure to double-check your child’s Little League Age using the Little League Age Charts.

Mini Minors help players transition from hitting off a tee to hitting off a coach pitcher. Fun and skill development are still the top priorities. Coaches are actively involved on the field to assist teams. As the season progresses, umpires, outs, and more baseball rules, including catchers, are introduced. The season wraps up with a fun-filled jamboree tournament in June! Friend requests are granted depending on the number of teams.

Rookie Minors introduces players to kid pitchers throwing to kid batters. Coaches help keep the game moving by stepping in to pitch if the pitcher throws 3 balls. Every player on the roster plays the field, with fun and skill development remaining the top priorities. This division also includes cross-city games with interleague play against other Victoria little leagues. Players will also have the opportunity to participate in one weekend tournament during the season. Teams are selected by coaches based on player evaluations, and friendship requests may not always be honored.

Schedule: 2-3 times a week: Divisional practices on Friday evenings, one team practice per week (day of the week decided by the coach), and 1-2 games per week. The spring season runs from early April through Hampton playoffs in mid-June.

Underage players may sign up for a level above their age group but will be evaluated during assessments. If you feel like your son or daughter is ready to play in a division above their age range, we welcome them to attend assessments and note that they would like to "try out" for a higher division. These players must meet certain criteria to demonstrate that they have not only the ability, but also the maturity to fit in safely with kids 2-3 years older than them.

Parent involvement: Each team requires a parent scorekeeper and parents are responsible for field setup and teardown.

Minors baseball is the first introduction to true baseball rules, including walks, stealing (no leadoffs), and pitching from 46 feet. At this level, Hampton still emphasizes fair play, good sportsmanship, and continued skill development. Teams are selected by coaches prior to the season based on player evaluations, and friendship requests may not always be honored. Games will be played against other Hampton Minor teams and Minor teams from across the city.

All Minors players will have the opportunity to play in the annual Hampton May Long Weekend Tournament, open to all Little League parks in Victoria. The City Minors Tournament (open to one Hampton team) is held during the 3rd week of June and wraps up the House season.

Near the end of the Hampton season, tryouts will occur to select the Hampton 8, 9, and 10-year-old district all-star team. This team will compete in the City (District 7) Little League Minors Tournament, with the winner advancing to the B.C. Little League Minors Provincial Championships.

Schedule: 3-4 times a week. One team practice per week (day of the week decided by the coach), and 1-2 games per week. The season runs from early April until the Hampton playoffs in mid-June, and for some, the City Minors Championships. Hampton hosts a May long weekend Minors Tournament.

What your player will need:

  • A glove
  • A batting helmet
  • Pelvic protection (jock/jill)
  • Grey baseball pants
  • Long baseball/athletic socks
  • USA Logo Approved Bat (not mandatory; team bats are supplied). Important: Baseball bats without the USA Logo will not be allowed, and players in some tournaments may be called out for using non-compliant bats.

Cost: $330 ($50 fundraising raffle tickets + $80 concession fee, which can be earned back)

Games will be played against other Hampton Major teams and Major teams from across the city.

All Majors players will have the opportunity to play in the annual Beacon Hill May Long Weekend Tournament.

Little League Baseball offers both house baseball and competitive tournament baseball at the Minor (8/9/10) and Major (11/12) levels. These teams are referred to as District or Tournament teams (sometimes called "All-Star" teams).

These teams represent Hampton at the District 7 tournament in late June/early July. If they win the district tournament, they move on to provincials. Official tryouts for the Minor and Major District Tournament Teams begin in May, with teams selected in June. These tryouts are open to all Hampton players.

Tournament Teams require a higher level of commitment from both players and parents/guardians.  There may be some fees associated with playing on these teams which we try to offset with some fundraising.

Note: Players wishing to participate in the 11/12 All-Star team must have a valid passport. All rostered players must have a valid passport to be eligible for the tournament.

In 2024, Hampton launched our first “prospects clinics” for players demonstrating a high level of dedication, skill, and a desire to improve. Building on this success, we are introducing a new Advanced Development Program in 2025. This program will provide select players with the opportunity to receive outside coaching, travel for occasional tournaments, and practice with peers of similar skill levels. The goal is to help players advance to more competitive, tournament play and prepare them for the next level of baseball.

Families interested in this program should still register for spring baseball. More details about costs, schedules, and age groups will be available in 2025. Stay tuned!

Fall Ball is a shortened 6-week season, starting in September, open to all Hampton players. This is a great opportunity to hone skills and play baseball while the weather is still good. Registration begins in mid-summer, after the Spring season ends.

Hampton offers Indoor Winter Clinics to help players continue developing their skills. These clinics are open to players moving into the Minors and Majors divisions, returning players, and those new to Hampton at the Minor/Major age. It’s a great way for players to keep improving during the winter months. Registration for these clinics will open in late fall (November).

The Challenger Division of Little League Baseball, established in 1989, enables children with special needs to enjoy the game of baseball alongside millions of other kids worldwide. Challenger games can be played as T-ball games, coach-pitch, player-pitch, or a combination—depending on the needs of the players to ensure full participation. The

Buddy Program allows children and youth from the host park, siblings, or others to assist Challenger players at bat or in the field.

Practices/Games: Saturdays from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Baseball games are played in a fun, safe environment where no score is kept. Able-bodied “Buddies” are assigned (one on one, where possible) to each participant. These Buddies assist the Challenger players with their involvement in the game. Pushing wheelchairs around the base path, assisting players in how to hold the bat and swing, or providing protection for the Challenger player from a batted ball, are just a few of the ways the Buddies offer a better experience for the participants in Challenger Baseball.

Each participant is treated like every other player in the conventional baseball program. All players are outfitted in uniforms, use the same equipment, and play their games at the local baseball parks.
