COVID-19 update from Hampton Little League

Hampton Little League is closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) developments. The safety and health of our Hampton Little League players, their family members, our coaches and volunteers is our highest priority.

While the US-based Little League International has recommended that leagues suspend activities, it notes that each community is affected differently. (The letter is available at https://www.littleleague.org/player-safety/coronavirus-update/.) Given that the confirmed cases on Vancouver Island remain at one and restrictions are now in place for non-essential travel, we are following the lead of our local and provincial public health officials and local public school districts. At this time, we are not announcing any cancellations or delays to the beginning of our season and we will reassess as we get closer to opening day.

We currently have assessments scheduled for March 14 and we will have to change location OR postpone; information will be sent out as soon as possible. The Little League requirement of participating in at least 50% of assessments (for baseball players registered in Rookies and above will be waived).

The winter clinics scheduled for this weekend will continue, unless Pearkes is closed.

For the safety of others, follow the recommendations of the provincial health officials and keep your child home from activities if he or she, or anyone in your household, has flu-like symptoms or any other signs of illness. For evidence-based information about symptoms of coronavirus, travel restrictions and recommendations, and FAQ, visit https://www.islandhealth.ca/learn-about-health/diseases-conditions/novel-coronavirus-information.

When you arrive at a clinic or an assessment with your player, please follow these practices to keep our community safe:

1) All players, family members, and people who come to the gym must ensure they have washed or hand sanitized their hands before entering the gym.

2) If anyone experiences any tears or nose blowing at any time we are together, please go to the bathroom and wash your hands immediately.

3) After all balls and equipment have been returned and put away at the end of practice, all players and coaches will wash their hands.

4) Please go over this list with your child and tell them to follow the hygiene protocols they have learned in school.

Keep a close eye on your email and the Hampton website for updates. Cancellations and changes could be announced at the last minute.
