The Victoria Day Classic Minor Tournament – What a Weekend!!!!

Well there was some pretty stellar ball play at our park this weekend as we hosted our annual Victoria Day Classic Minor Tournament! There were teams from Lake Hill, Layritz, Beacon Hill, National and of course Hampton had 2 teams in the tournament. After an incredibly close and exciting game, between Layritz and Lake Hill, Lake Hill brought it home in the last inning to claim the championship title. It was an exciting final game after a fantastic weekend. All the teams played well and displayed excellent sportsmanship and team work – well done!

This tournament couldn’t have happened without some great people who spent time organizing (thank you Tournament committee!!!!! Curt, Charles, Jason, Ashley and Mike), by the Concession (Thank you Alison and Cherie!!!!), by the Hampton team parents who volunteered in a variety of roles from bathroom duty, score keeping, concession, raking fields, 50/50 and of course coaching (THANK YOU!)

And we gotta say, Curt, you are the BEST announcer!

Be proud Hampton community for running a fantastic city wide event!

candyI know I should post pictures of all the fantastic game play…….but there was some other lovely stuff that happened …….all through the weekend, several of us saw many of our players from little to big, helping throughout the weekend – from umpiring, to garbage clean up, to making candy bags to sell out of the concession, or whatever was asked of them. I was really struck by the way they would just jump in and want to help out and the sense of pride and ownership these young people feel about their park. As you see them around the park playing with each other, chatting to adults, helping out, taking care of the park – that sense of belonging to a community – THAT is a wonderful thing…
